They may \u2013perhaps- mumble something about capitalism being about greed and socialism being about generosity. The facts are quite the opposite. Here is a working definition.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Capitalism: The<span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"> free exchange<\/span> of <span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">privately owned<\/span> goods and services<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Socialism: \u00a0An economic system focused on <span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">state control<\/span> and state-ownership of industry and property.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Notice the difference? Do individuals own their businesses and property or does the government? \u00a0Do we want \u201cfree exchange\u201d or \u201ccontrol\u201d of our lives by some larger innocuous entity? \u00a0The key concept of comparing and contrasting these two is a question: Is the state more important than the individual or is the individual more important than the state? \u00a0Was Spock correct in Star Trek when he said, \u201cThe needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few?\u201d \u00a0Does the Borg\u2019s collectivism justify assimilation of the individual?<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">The Biblical worldview has a clear and unapologetic answer to this question. C.S. Lewis said it best.<\/p>\n<p>Again, Christianity asserts that every individual human being is going to live for ever, and this must be either true or false. \u00a0. . . \u00a0And immortality makes this other difference, which, by the by, has a connection with the difference between totalitarianism and democracy. \u00a0If individuals live only seventy years, then a state, or a nation, or a civilization, which may last for a thousand years, is more important than an individual. \u00a0But if Christianity is true, then the individual is not only more important but incomparably more important, for he is everlasting and the life of the state or civilization, compared with his, is only a moment.<br \/>\n\u2013 C.S. Lewis,\u00a0Mere Christianity\u00a074-75<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">An economics teacher was contrasting to his class why capitalism produced incentive and socialism did not. \u00a0They didn\u2019t buy it. \u00a0So he waited for the first test. Everyone got back a \u201cC+\u201d\u00a0Many students had studied hard and got \u201cA\u2019s\u201d, while others had blown off the test and failed. The teacher said that he wanted to treat everyone equally \u2013just as they had suggested. He averaged the efforts of the class and gave everyone a \u201cC+\u201d! \u00a0Well, guess what? Next test, the A\u2019s students who had been robbed for their efforts, didn\u2019t study as hard&#8230; The F students continued their bad study habits since they were quite happy with the rewards of their efforts on the last test. At the end of the day, everyone\u2019s averaged grade was a \u201cD.\u201d \u00a0The class was catching on. They saw that treating everyone equally leads to a downward spiral. It robs the hard workers of the gift of labor. The fruit of their hard work.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">So what is Godonomics? \u00a0It\u2019s the beauty of God\u2019s wisdom applied to economics. The power of His wisdom in a personal, family, or even national economy.
