{"id":98,"date":"2007-11-09T20:44:54","date_gmt":"2007-11-09T20:44:54","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.beliefnet.com\/godometer\/2007\/11\/dobsonforhuckabee-report-denie.html"},"modified":"2007-11-09T20:44:54","modified_gmt":"2007-11-09T20:44:54","slug":"dobsonforhuckabee-report-denie","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.beliefnet.com\/columnists\/godometer\/2007\/11\/dobsonforhuckabee-report-denie.html","title":{"rendered":"Dobson-for-Huckabee Report Denied"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Aides to Christian radio personality James Dobson are denying a report that the influential <a href=\"http:\/\/www.family.org\">Focus on the Family <\/a>founder is planning to endorse Mike Huckabee.<br \/>\n\u201cDr. Dobson isn&#8217;t close to an endorsement of anyone in the 2008 race,\u201d Focus on the Family senior vice president Tom Minnery told <a href=\"http:\/\/www.spectator.org\">The American Spectator <\/a>in an email this afternoon.<br \/>\nEarlier in the day, the magazine\u2019s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.spectator.org\/dsp_prowler.asp\">Washington Prowler <\/a>blog, citing a Huckabee campaign source and an unidentified Dobson \u201cadvisor\u201d in Colorado, reported that Dobson has decided to back the former Baptist minister and Arkansas governor and plans to announce his endorsement at a campaign event in Iowa within the next ten days.<br \/>\nAfter updating <a href=\"http:\/\/www.spectator.org\/dsp_article.asp?art_id=12292\">its online report <\/a>to include Minnery\u2019s denial, the magazine added this:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Contacted again by The American Spectator, those who initially spoke on background about the Dobson endorsement insisted that as of last night, plans were being put in place by the Huckabee campaign for an announcement and endorsement tour, and stood by their account.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Getting Dobson\u2019s support would be huge for Huckabee, and God-o-Meter isn\u2019t convinced it won\u2019t happen. What, after all, in Minnery\u2019s words, constitutes being \u201cclose to an endorsement\u201d? An announcement less than a week away?
