\nWith Barack Obama in Colorado Springs, CO for a speech today<\/a>, God-o-Meter checked in with Focus on the Family, the granddaddy of evangelical megagroups in the Springs, to see if Obama had any plans to stop by while he was in town. Here’s what Focus on the Family Vice President of Media and Public Relations Gary Schneeberger reports:<\/p>\n

There is no meeting scheduled. There have been talks between his staff
\nand our staff — very cordial conversations — but nothing is imminent. We would certainly meet with the senator or his staff if such a visit could be arranged.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Wow. A Democratic presidential nominee is in cordial conversations with Focus on the Family? By way of comparison, here’s how Robert Novak described recent talks<\/a> between Focus on the Family and John McCain:<\/p>\n

After McCain clinched the nomination, however, Dobson privately invited him to Focus on the Family headquarters in Colorado Springs. When members of the Family Policy Council gathered there May 9 for an annual conference, word spread that McCain’s campaign staff had rebuffed Dobson.
\nIt was not that simple. The McCain campaign had responded that the senator would be in Denver on May 2 and would be happy to see Dobson in his hotel suite for a visit not limited by time. Dobson declined and asked McCain to come to Colorado Springs. McCain then also declined.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
