But the group says John McCain\u2019s decision not to participate is not for lack its of trying. \u201cOur allies had conversations at the highest levels of the McCain campaign,\u201d says Katie Barge, Faith in Public Life\u2019s director of communications strategy. \u201cWe had received an initially positive response.\u201d<br \/>\n\u201cWe\u2019re not holding a grudge at all\u2014we are still hopefully that [McCain] actually comes and are keeping lines of communication open with the McCain campaign,\u201d Barge said in an interview late last week. \u201cI will take them at their word that there\u2019s a scheduling conflict.\u201d<br \/>\nGod-o-Meter, for its part, is more dubious.
