\nCatholic League president Bill Donohue backed Senator Hillary Clinton\u2019s plea to President Bush not to attend the Olympics opening ceremony:
\n\u201cIt is one thing to call for a boycott of the Olympic games\u2014too many innocent athletes would be punished\u2014but it is quite proper to use the symbolic importance of the opening ceremony to drive home a much-needed message: China can\u2019t pretend to be religion friendly while routinely censoring religious liberty. Senator Clinton gets it just right when she urges President Bush to boycott the opening ceremony, saying \u2018Americans will stand strong in support of freedom of religion and political expression and human rights.\u2019<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
