\nIn an interview with Beliefnet<\/a> earlier this week Family Research Council<\/a> President Tony Perkins said he was unlikely to endorse any of the Republican presidential candidates during the primaries. But God-o-Meter just received a very laudatory review<\/a> of Mitt Romney’s “Faith in America” speech<\/a> from the Family Research Council, as part of the group’s end of day e-mail report.

Romney’s remarks were well-delivered and he offered many compelling thoughts, including this one, “It is important to recognize that while differences in theology exist between the churches in America, we share a common creed of moral convictions. And where the affairs of our nation are concerned, it’s usually a sound rule to focus on the latter–on the great moral principles that urge us all on a common course. Whether it was the cause of abolition, or civil rights, or the right to life itself, no movement of conscience can succeed in America that cannot speak to the convictions of religious people.”<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

God-o-Meter is still unsure how Romney’s speech was received by in-the-pews evangelicals, but a plug from the Family Research Council, probably the beltway’s most powerful Christian Right lobby, is a pretty good start.<\/p>\n
