It teaches me to stop following every impulse and to learn restraint. Obviously, I lost track of what I was taught.”

One City’s Jon Rubenstein wrote about the idea of taming these unquenchable yearnings for security, for more–that constant itch we all have. Most of us scratch it on a way smaller scale with temporarily filling distractions–food, shopping, sex, TV. Buddhism counsels deepening our awareness of the itch, saying that scratching only makes it worse. Jon writes…

“So when Woods describes Buddhism as being part of his path, he’s likely referring to the fact that Buddhism provides a path that allows us to see things as they really are, to understand our minds, and to train our minds in a way that allows us to have peace and joy in this very moment, regardless of external circumstances.”

So well and succinctly put.

Read the whole post on Buddhism and Tiger Woods.

Like what you see? Click here to subscribe and get Fresh Living in your in-box every day!

Our friends at the One City blog wrote a beautiful post just now explaining the “craving” Tiger Woods mentioned today in his public apology about his hugely infidelitous ways.
