He started his last book, &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Defense-Food-Eaters-Manifesto\/dp\/0143114964\/ref=pd_bxgy_b_img_b\" target=\"_blank\">In Defense of Food: An Eater&#8217;s Manifesto<\/a>,&#8221; with: &#8220;Eat food, mostly plants.&#8221; The other night on The Daily Show he echoed this: <font face=\"Helvetica\">&#8220;Eat food, not edible food-like substances.&#8221; <\/font><\/p>\n<p><font face=\"Helvetica\">In his latest book, &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Food-Rules-Eaters-Michael-Pollan\/dp\/014311638X\/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&amp;s=books&amp;qid=1263249195&amp;sr=1-1\" target=\"_blank\">Food Rules, An Eater&#8217;s Manual<\/a>,&#8221;&nbsp;Pollan expands on this simple, yet brilliant tip with 64 &#8220;food rules&#8221;&nbsp;he solicited from New York Times readers and others. The result is a useful, often hilarious mini compendium of great eating advice. Here&#8217;s a sampling, plucked from a <a href=\"http:\/\/well.blogs.nytimes.com\/2010\/01\/08\/michael-pollan-offers-64-ways-to-eat-food\/\">recent post <\/a>on the Times&#8217; <a href=\"http:\/\/well.blogs.nytimes.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Well blog<\/a>:<\/font><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Don&#8217;t buy cereals that change the color of the milk.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>From his grandma: &#8220;The whiter the bread, the sooner you&#8217;ll be dead.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Eat all the junk food you want as long as you cook it yourself.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;If it came from a plant, eat it. If it was made in a plant, don&#8217;t.&#8221; <\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It&#8217;s not food if it&#8217;s served through the window of your car.&#8221; <\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It&#8217;s not food if it&#8217;s called by the same name in every language.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The banquet is in the first bite.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Cool, right?
