{"id":814,"date":"2009-12-16T14:51:40","date_gmt":"2009-12-16T14:51:40","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.beliefnet.com\/freshliving\/2009\/12\/snowflake-brain-break.html"},"modified":"2009-12-16T14:51:40","modified_gmt":"2009-12-16T14:51:40","slug":"snowflake-brain-break","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.beliefnet.com\/columnists\/freshliving\/2009\/12\/snowflake-brain-break.html","title":{"rendered":"Snowflake Brain Break!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Do you have 15 minutes?&nbsp; Are your hands itching to do something other than type?&nbsp; What are you waiting for&#8211;make a paper snowflake!&nbsp; <\/p>\n<p>That&#8217;s what I did this morning &#8211; right at my desk, in less than 15 minutes.&nbsp; I was inspired by Maggie Mason, aka <a href=\"http:\/\/mightygirl.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Mighty Girl<\/a>, who covered her windows with delicate, unique (aren&#8217;t they all?!) <a href=\"http:\/\/mightygirl.com\/2009\/12\/15\/1000-lovely-things-paper-snowflakes\/\" target=\"_blank\">wax paper snowflakes<\/a>.&nbsp; I thought, hey!&nbsp; I have wax paper!&nbsp; I have scissors!&nbsp; Who needs caffeine when such a fun, crafty break awaits&#8230;.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"mt-enclosure mt-enclosure-image\"><a href=\"http:\/\/blog.beliefnet.com\/freshliving\/IMG_5180.JPG\"><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"IMG_5180.JPG\" src=\"https:\/\/wp-media.beliefnet.com\/sites\/84\/import\/assets_c\/2009\/12\/IMG_5180-thumb-450x300-10144.jpg\" class=\"mt-image-none\" height=\"300\" width=\"450\" \/><\/a><\/span> <\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<p>Ok, so maybe it was 2 fun, crafty breaks&#8230;.so sue me.&nbsp; But guess what I learned in the process?&nbsp; There are tons of websites (<a href=\"http:\/\/www3.ns.sympatico.ca\/dstredulinsky\/patterns.html\" target=\"_blank\">like this one<\/a>) with paper snowflake patterns for your replicating pleasure!&nbsp; I didn&#8217;t want to fuss too much, but I roughly tried to <a href=\"http:\/\/www3.ns.sympatico.ca\/dstredulinsky\/SnowPat\/snow103.htm\" target=\"_blank\">imitate this pattern<\/a> with the flake on the left.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; <\/p>\n<p>You can make a snowflake out of anything &#8211; wax paper is lovely and translucent, but plain printer paper will do, as will anything from coffee filters to grocery bags.&nbsp; And Valerie discovered this gorgeous idea for <a href=\"http:\/\/www.designspongeonline.com\/2009\/12\/made-with-love-doily-snowflake-garlands.html\" target=\"_blank\">how to cut snowflakes out of paper doilies<\/a> for an extra-frilly effect&#8211;wow!<\/p>\n<p>I might just experiment with making quick snowflakes whenever I need a break.&nbsp; How long will it take to fill my window with lace-y beauty?&nbsp; How long would it take you?<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 10pt;color: black;font-family: 'Arial','sans-serif'\"><strong>Like what you see? <\/strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.sharewik.com\/\"><font color=\"#023d89\"><strong>Click here to subscribe<\/strong><\/font><\/a><strong> and get Fresh Living in your in-box every day.<\/strong><\/span>&nbsp; <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Do you have 15 minutes?
