I am one of zillions who really enjoyed Elizabeth Gilbert’s memoir, “Eat, Pray, Love” and am now excited that her next book is coming soon. Yay. This one, a recent interview <\/a>with her in the New York Times tell us, is about marriage: Committed: A Skeptic Makes Peace With Marriage. <\/p>\n

She wrote this after scrapping 500 pages of a new book that she decided was just not right–a publishing move that takes serious chutzpah. She said something interesting: <\/p>\n

Ms. Gilbert said she never could read the first draft in its entirety. She identified the problem as a clash of two voices: one, “an ‘Eat, Pray, Love’ hangover,” — the chatty, witty tone that earned Ms. Gilbert her good reviews and loyal fans — and the other, “more sober and considered and confident and mature.” <\/p><\/blockquote>\n

That makes total sense to me–traversing the area between the new self and the old self, where you’re more of a two-color swirl instead of a fully integrated new color. And it seems really brave and self-care-full of her to then take six months off the book and resume. Inspired as usual.<\/p>\n

I’ve posted her TED talk on creative genius here before, but thought it made sense to trot out again, because it is so damn good. <\/p>\n
