Out in paperback on July 9th.<\/p>\n<p>2) <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Holy-Cow-Adventure-Sarah-Macdonald\/dp\/0767915747\/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&amp;qid=1245698245&amp;sr=1-1\">&#8220;Holy Cow&#8221;<\/a> by Sarah MacDonald<\/p>\n<p>A smart,&nbsp;engaging <em>non-fiction<\/em> tale of a journalist&#8217;s tumultuous&nbsp;travels through India.<\/p>\n<p>3) <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Year-Magical-Thinking-Joan-Didion\/dp\/1400078431\/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&amp;s=books&amp;qid=1245698268&amp;sr=1-1\">&#8220;The Year of Magical Thinking&#8221;<\/a> by Joan Didion<\/p>\n<p>Not exactly a knee-slapper, but if you haven&#8217;t read this exquisitely rendered, excruciating story of loss, you must.<\/p>\n<p>4) <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/When-Youre-Falling-Dive-Lessons\/dp\/1596913703\/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&amp;s=books&amp;qid=1245698385&amp;sr=1-1\">&#8220;When You&#8217;re Falling, Dive&#8221;<\/a> by Mark Matousek<\/p>\n<p>This narrative weaves memoir with interviews from&nbsp;well-known and everyday people about how they cope with life&#8217;s butt-kicking travails&#8211;from a blind photographer to poet Stanley Kunitz to Joan Didion.<\/p>\n<p>5) <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Compassionate-Life-Walking-Kindness-ebook\/dp\/B002CGRLCU\/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&amp;s=books&amp;qid=1245698114&amp;sr=8-2\">&#8220;The Compassionate Life&#8221; <\/a>by Marc Ian Barasch<\/p>\n<p>I haven&#8217;t finished this one yet, but I&#8217;ll tell you that the first quarter is a tight, persuasive, poetic case for being more kind. Not sappy-kind, but genuinely compassionate. <\/p>\n<p>(Bonus: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Eat-Pray-Love-Everything-Indonesia\/dp\/0143038419\/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&amp;s=books&amp;qid=1245698656&amp;sr=1-1\">&#8220;Eat, Pray, Love&#8221;<\/a> by Elizabeth Gilbert.
