{"id":321,"date":"2009-04-16T13:04:28","date_gmt":"2009-04-16T13:04:28","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.beliefnet.com\/freshliving\/2009\/04\/happy-national-high-five-day.html"},"modified":"2009-04-16T13:04:28","modified_gmt":"2009-04-16T13:04:28","slug":"happy-national-high-five-day","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.beliefnet.com\/columnists\/freshliving\/2009\/04\/happy-national-high-five-day.html","title":{"rendered":"Happy National High Five Day!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span class=\"mt-enclosure mt-enclosure-image\"><a href=\"http:\/\/blog.beliefnet.com\/freshliving\/high5.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"high5.jpg\" src=\"https:\/\/wp-media.beliefnet.com\/sites\/84\/import\/assets_c\/2009\/04\/high5-thumb-245x157-4368.jpg\" class=\"mt-image-left\" style=\"margin: 0pt 20px 20px 0pt;float: left\" height=\"157\" width=\"245\" \/><\/a><\/span>In the spirit of fun, &#8220;just because&#8221; holidays that I wrote about when I spread the word about <a href=\"http:\/\/blog.beliefnet.com\/freshliving\/2009\/04\/how-to-celebrate-feel-better-day-1.html\">Feel Better Day<\/a>, today is <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nationalhighfiveday.com\/\">National High Five Day<\/a>!<\/p>\n<p>Not shockingly, this holiday was started by college students, at the University of Virginia in 2002.&nbsp; High-five-ing just has that &#8220;hey, man&#8221; youth vibe.&nbsp; But it&#8217;s a fun tradition even for those of us who don&#8217;t use the phrase &#8220;meet you on the quad&#8221; with any regularity.&nbsp; <\/p>\n<p>When you offer your hand to someone, you&#8217;re saying any of these things:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Congrats, you rock!<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>I agree with you, you said it better than I could have!<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>You&#8217;re clever and I think what you just said was funny!<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>I&#8217;m happy to see you, I&#8217;m glad you&#8217;re here!<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>I love the idea of National High Five Day as a chance to say any or all of these things to people in our lives &#8211; or random strangers on the street.&nbsp; Even if it often seems to belong to the male, beer-drinking, baseball-cap-wearing set, high-fives are chances for connection in a world that&#8217;s hungry for just that.&nbsp; So I say, don&#8217;t leave me hanging!<\/p>\n<p><b>When&#8217;s the last time you gave a high-five?<\/p>\n<p><\/b>(image via: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.fastautoglass.com\/\">http:\/\/www.fastautoglass.com<\/a>)<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>In the spirit of fun, &#8220;just because&#8221; holidays that I wrote about when I spread the word about Feel Better Day, today is National High Five Day!
