{"id":182,"date":"2009-02-26T11:30:00","date_gmt":"2009-02-26T11:30:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.beliefnet.com\/freshliving\/2009\/02\/how-to-kick-a-cold.html"},"modified":"2009-02-26T11:30:00","modified_gmt":"2009-02-26T11:30:00","slug":"how-to-kick-a-cold","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.beliefnet.com\/columnists\/freshliving\/2009\/02\/how-to-kick-a-cold.html","title":{"rendered":"How to Kick a Cold"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span class=\"mt-enclosure mt-enclosure-image\"><a href=\"http:\/\/blog.beliefnet.com\/freshliving\/IMG_1839.JPG\"><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"IMG_1839.JPG\" src=\"https:\/\/wp-media.beliefnet.com\/sites\/84\/import\/assets_c\/2009\/02\/IMG_1839-thumb-256x384-3475.jpg\" class=\"mt-image-right\" style=\"margin: 0pt 0pt 20px 20px;float: right\" height=\"384\" width=\"256\" \/><\/a><\/span>Quick, help!&nbsp; Sore throat\/runny nose emergency!&nbsp; I need your ideas for how to kick this cold out of Dodge, like NOW.<\/p>\n<p>I wouldn&#8217;t be so alarmed about a winter sniffle, except that I am scheduled to visit my newborn nephew this weekend, and I&#8217;d hate for his first memory of his aunt to be a) the weirdo who gave me a virtual hug from across the room or b) that lady who smells like Purell.&nbsp; <\/p>\n<p>My &#8220;nip it in the bud&#8221; cold strategies are all of the liquid variety: it&#8217;s all about tea.&nbsp; I busted out my biggest mug, and I&#8217;m self-medicating through the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.beliefnet.com\/Health\/2008\/09\/The-Healing-Power-of-Tea.aspx\">healing power of tea<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><b>Round one<\/b> was a lemongrass green tea with a big blob of honey stirred in (honey is not only an anti-inflammatory, but it is also supposed to boost your immune response).<\/p>\n<p><b>Round two<\/b>, which I&#8217;m currently sipping, is an orange spice white tea with a hunk of crystallized ginger submerged inside.&nbsp; Ginger is best known for its properties as a digestive aid, but it is also a decongestant and lends a nice zing to the tea. <\/p>\n<p><b>Round three<\/b> will most likely be <a href=\"http:\/\/www.beliefnet.com\/Health\/Physical-Health\/Hidden-Health-Secrets-of-Lemons.aspx?p=6\">good old fashioned lemon water<\/a>.&nbsp; Between the immune-boosting vitamin C and the anti-viral power of this amazingly healing fruit, I should be good to go.<\/p>\n<p>How do you kick a cold before it takes hold?&nbsp; Please (please!) share.&nbsp; &nbsp; <\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Quick, help!&nbsp; Sore throat\/runny nose emergency!&nbsp; I need your ideas for how to kick this cold out of Dodge, like NOW.
