British actress Dame Diana Rigg, most famously known stateside for her iconic role in “Game of Thrones,” has passed away at 82 years old. The actor had been battling cancer after being diagnosed in March.<\/p>\n

“It is with tremendous sadness that we announce that Dame Diana Rigg died peacefully early this morning,” her agent Simon Beresford said. “She was at home with her family who have asked for privacy at this difficult time.”<\/p>\n

Dame Diana rose to fame following her role in the 1961 TV series, “The Avengers.” She later went on to star in the Bond film, “On Her Majesty’s Secret Service,” as Tracy di Vicenzo. Her character was the only woman to marry James Bond.<\/p>\n

One of her most classic roles was secret agent Emma Pell in “The Avengers,” in 1968, but she peaked the interests of newer generations with her role as Lady Olenna Tyrell in “Game of Thrones,”<\/p>\n

Dame Diana trained as an actress early at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art. She originally began acting in theatre productions before making her break into film and television. Her accolades as an actress include a Tony Award, Emmy Award, Evening Standard Award, a Broadcasting Press Guild Award, and a host of other awards and nominations.<\/p>\n

“She spent her last months joyfully reflecting on her extraordinary life, full of love, laughter, and a deep pride in her profession,” Riggs’ daughter, Rachael Stirling, said in a statement. “I will miss her beyond words.”<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
