Since its nationally syndicated premiere in 1988, The Rush Limbaugh Show became the highest-rated talk radio show in the U.S.<\/p>\n<p>Limbaugh considered himself a Methodist. In the final years of his life, Limbaugh opened up about his personal relationship with Jesus and the role faith played in helping him through his very difficult battle with cancer. Jesus helped him through challenging times.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ,\u201d Limbaugh said during one of his final programs. \u201cIt is of immense value, strength, confidence. That\u2019s why I\u2019m able to remain fully committed to the idea that what is supposed to happen will happen when it\u2019s mean to.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Limbaugh had been diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer last February. This cancer&#8217;s nature is aggressive, having a 5-year survival rate of between 1-10 percent and a 1-year survival rate between 15-19 percent.<\/p>\n<p>Limbaugh\u2019s life was not without controversy. He was denounced by his critics as a bigot and called out for statements deemed racist. Some also criticized him for his close relationship with former President Donald Trump. Yet, for the tens of millions of listeners who followed his show, he gave voice to right wing ideology that didn\u2019t have a place anywhere else in pop culture.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFor over 32 years, Rush has cherished you, his loyal audience, and always looked forward to every single show. It is with profound sadness that I must share with you directly that our beloved Rush, my wonderful husband, passed away this morning due to complications from lung cancer,\u201d his wife, Kathryn said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs so many of you know, losing a loved one is terribly difficult, even more so when that loved one is larger than life,\u201d she added.<br \/>\nFormer President George W. Bush called Limbaugh, a \u201cfriend throughout\u201d his two terms as president.
