The Brick Testament is one man’s decade-long project to tell the entire story of the Bible using only Legos and sarcasm. I have a couple of the Brick Testament board books (a great way to entertain bored kids in church!), but mostly I love the website.

The approach of the Brick Testament is similar in tone to the Twible, with an ironic sensibility and a willingness to explore some of the Bible’s, ah, more colorful passages. Lego devotee Brendan Powell Smith says he is an atheist, whereas the Twible is the product of a failed saint and wanna-be believer, so we approach the texts from different perspectives. Some days, though, I’m right there with Smith (Judges 19, anyone?).

So check out The Brick Testament. It’s hilarious and sometimes quite prophetic.

And here are some recent Twible entries from the Psalms:

#Twible Ps 48: Jerusalem may in reality be a backwater town, but it’s OUR backwater town, and G’s favorite hangout. So there.

#Twible Ps 49: Don’t be sad when others get rich, or win the HGTV dream house. They’re all gonna die someday. Death’s the great =izer.

#Twible Ps 50: G: “Don’t give me no bull, Israel. Why’d you think I’d be appeased by animal sacrifice? Really, just say thx. W/ chocolate.”

#Twible Ps 51: “I sinned & I’m extra sorry. Here’s my broken spirit. I would’ve killed you a goat, but I hear you don’t like those anymore.”

#Twible Ps 52: The righteous will one day taunt wicked sinners in their best Church Lady voices. Now isn’t that special?

#Twible Ps 53: Fools say in their hearts, “There is no God.” G says in his heart, “Dang! I sure did manufacture an awful lot of fools.”

#Twible Ps 54: Choirmasters, be sure to sing this w/ stringed instruments, or else people won’t get the full effect of all the whining. Thx.

#Twible Ps 55: Fear, trembling, dread, horror. This is one of those 3 a.m. psalms for comfort after a nightmare. Or a Wes Craven movie.

#Twible Ps 56: Crush my enemies & make em into jam. I’ll spread on toast & eat 4 breakfast. Or maybe put it in donuts. Mmm, enemy donuts.

#Twible Ps 57: My soul is between the lions, and not in a nice “PBS Kids” way. I think these lions may have skipped breakfast.
