When I posted a link to a video of 47 year old Susan Boyle here yesterday under the simple heading,\u00c2\u00a0Are You Judgmental?<\/span>,<\/a>\u00c2\u00a0I had no idea that I was caught up in an online phenomenon that was about to catch the imaginations of people throughout the world. Fast forward 24 hours or so and millions are watching, sharing and blogging about Susan’s performance, her life and how this simple woman singing this beautiful song has sparked something in us – young and old, rich and poor.\u00c2\u00a0<\/p>\n

I have to admit that I get misty every time I watch it. I showed it to my undergraduate business students this morning and more than one of them – girls and guys – shed a tear.\u00c2\u00a0<\/p>\n

Speculation regarding why this performance has meant so much to us abounds in the blogosphere. The Huffington Post alone has more than a half-dozen bloggers<\/a> weighing in on Susan and her performance. Some focus on hope. Others ask why we are so surprised that an unattractive woman can sing like that.<\/p>\n

Rather than try to answer the question, I would like to raise it. What is it about Susan Boyle that moves us?<\/p>\n
