{"id":5307,"date":"2014-08-25T02:49:05","date_gmt":"2014-08-25T02:49:05","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.beliefnet.com\/columnists\/fellowshipofsaintsandsinners\/?p=5307"},"modified":"2018-07-20T17:44:29","modified_gmt":"2018-07-20T17:44:29","slug":"new-job-new-book","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.beliefnet.com\/columnists\/fellowshipofsaintsandsinners\/2014\/08\/new-job-new-book.html","title":{"rendered":"New Job, New Book"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>You may have noticed that I&#8217;ve not shown up at this intersection during the last week or so.\u00a0 A new job, and, with the new job, the promise of a new book project, have conspired to keep me away.\u00a0 Much of last week I was out in L.A. on a business trip meeting new colleagues\u2014hence an extended absence from this intersection.<\/p>\n<p>But I can&#8217;t say how thrilled I am to be taking a full-time writing job with Elements Behavioral Health, a California-based company with addiction recovery programs nationwide.\u00a0 What I love about the company is that it exists not just to help persons with addiction find pathways to healing and recovery; it&#8217;s also committed to &#8220;Creating Extraordinary Lives&#8221; (the Elements motto).\u00a0 (By way of a mini mental health break in this post: I also love the fact that one of my colleagues is the voice behind the now viral\u00a0<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"The Crazy Nastyass Honey Badger (original narration by Randall)\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/4r7wHMg5Yjg?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>; and, by way of a forewarning, the short video, while very funny to watch, contains an occasional F-bomb.)<\/p>\n<p>While Elements&#8217; current recovery programs feature largely secular, holistic approaches to treating addiction in its many and various forms, Elements is now brokering new relationships with a network of Christian recovery programs nationwide.<\/p>\n<p>Enter me.\u00a0 I&#8217;ve been asked to, among other things, contribute to an e-book that will equip churches for ministry to persons with addiction.\u00a0 In addition to the book, I&#8217;ll be writing&#8230;writing&#8230;and writing&#8230;articles, blogs, white papers, Web copy, you name it, on all things related to addiction and mental health issues like post-traumatic stress syndrome (PTSD).<\/p>\n<p>What this may mean for you and this fellowship of saints and sinners is:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>that you&#8217;ll on occasion be asked for feedback on these sorts of issues.\u00a0 I hope you&#8217;ll feel free to share your views and experiences freely, in the same vein that Rob Bell defines &#8220;church&#8221;\u2014as &#8220;the place where you say the things that have to be said\u2026with the most honesty and vulnerability and prophetic culture.\u201d\u00a0 In other words, I hope you&#8217;ll be able to tell the truth here, and that I can, too.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>that I may not be able to post as frequently, but you&#8217;ll have even more opportunities to share your creativity with the rest of the bunch!\u00a0 I&#8217;ll still try to post 2-3 times a week, but realistically, this frequency may not happen.\u00a0 It&#8217;s possible, for example, that I may only post once a week, but focus on one solid, quality piece per week.\u00a0 In the meantime, you&#8217;ll have a chance to feature your own guest posts or feature series.\u00a0 Just shoot me an email and send me a sample of your work!<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<div class=\"copy-paste-block\"><\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>You may have noticed that I&#8217;ve not shown up at this intersection during the last week or so.\u00a0 A new job, and, with the new job, the promise of a new book project, have conspired to keep me away.\u00a0 Much of last week I was out in L.A. on a business trip meeting new colleagues\u2014hence&hellip;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":461,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[140,43,1732,1792,1154],"tags":[164,2234,2235,244,1713,2236],"class_list":["post-5307","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-addiction","category-humor","category-mental-illness-2","category-millennials","category-ministry","tag-addiction-2","tag-church-and-addiction","tag-honey-badger","tag-mental-illness","tag-ptsd","tag-randall"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v23.9 -
