I’ve just begun reading fellow author and blogger Leanne Shirtliffe’s Don’t Lick the Minivan: And Other Things I Never Thought I’d Say To My Kids. <\/em>Today marks the book’s official launch, and while I’ve only read the first chapter, I can already tell that this is a book you will love if you like a good laugh, have children, or both. It’s worth noting that I have been reading Shirtliffe alongside Mindy Kaling’s Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me?, <\/em>and get this: while Kaling is definitely funny, Shirtliffe is funnier! Shirtliffe has plumbed the highs and lows- abysmal depths?- of her experience as a mother to twins and come up with sheer gold: those absurd and sweetly comical moments that anyone who has ever had children will have an appreciation for.<\/p>\n

And, Shirtliffe’s edgy humor makes me covetous; considering I’ve only read the first chapter and am already saying this, I am guessing I will have broken the tenth commandment at least ten more times by the time I finish reading. Just consider whether some of the subheadings don’t make you chuckle:\u00a0 “Get that train off your penis;” “Did you pee on Minnie Mouse on purpose?;” “Did you actually lick the tire?;” and “We travel with our own dual airbags.” All of the crazy things we mothers have said either under our breath or to our children in a heated moment Shirtliffe has decided to let rip in a beautifully funny, unfiltered sort of way.<\/p>\n

What does any of this have to do with the intersection between God and life? A lot, I think- insofar as I’m convinced God must have a grand sense of humor. (My strong conviction about this may require a whole other blog post.) All of this to say, Leanne, hats off to you on the release of your book and a hee-lar-ious one at that!
