Thus when the New York congressman  finally copped up to his sexting in a nearly hour-long press conference  on Monday, Twitter exploded with quips, dick jokes and expressions of  shock from around the Internet.<br \/>\n<\/em><strong>Comment: <\/strong>It&#8217;s hard to believe this is the same medium that was <a href=\"http:\/\/www.thenational.ae\/news\/uae-news\/facebook-and-twitter-key-to-arab-spring-uprisings-report\">given so much credit for the Arab Spring<\/a>. <em> <\/em><\/p>\n<p>2. <strong>Scott Pelley takes CBS anchor chair. <\/strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.thewrap.com\/tv\/article\/scott-pelleys-1st-day-amid-cables-weiner-onslaught-cronkites-old-gig-isnt-what-it-was-28001\">From The Wrap<\/a>: <em>It was a day in which the most prestigious job in the news business,  the anchor chair that once belonged to Walter Cronkite himself, changed  hands. But Scott Pelley&#8217;s first day as anchor of the &#8220;CBS Evening News&#8221; barely moved the needle. In fact, it almost seemed lost amid a day of nonstop salacious cable news and internet reporting about Rep. Anthony Weiner coming clean about tweeting lewd pictures.<\/em><br \/>\n<strong>Comment: <\/strong>It&#8217;s hard to have gravitas when the top story of the day involves a <em>member <\/em>of Congress. But <em>that&#8217;s the way it is<\/em> in 2011.<\/p>\n<p>3.\u00a0<strong> Jon Stewart&#8217;s Weiner problem. <\/strong>What do you do when you host a news-based comedy show and your friend is caught with his pants down? Here&#8217;s how Stewart dealt with the problem on <em>The Daily Show<\/em>. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mediaite.com\/tv\/rep-weiner-gets-a-freebie-jon-stewart-reflects-on-how-ripped-his-friend-is\/\">More @ Mediaite<\/a>. <em> <\/em><\/p>\n<p>4. <strong>It had to happen sometime.<\/strong> Eliot Spitzer&#8217;s CNN show leads with an embarrassing political admission.<a href=\"http:\/\/www.mediaite.com\/tv\/eliot-spitzer-on-weiners-press-conference-its-not-a-proud-moment-believe-me-i-know\/\">More @ Mediaite<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>5. <strong>Origin story of an anti-Semitic superhero.<\/strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.jta.org\/news\/article\/2011\/06\/07\/3088044\/santa-monica-anti-circumcision-backer-drops-ballot-measure-bid\">From JTA.org<\/a>: <em>The main backer of a ballot measure to ban circumcision in Santa Monica  has dropped the effort over its perceived attack on religious freedom.<\/em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.thewrap.com\/media\/column-post\/circumcision-ban-withdrawn-santa-monica-%E2%80%93-what%E2%80%99s-behind-it-all-28004?page=0,0\"><br \/>\nFrom The Wrap<\/a>:<em> But it is the second place that this issue has gotten traction.  MGMbill.org, a San Diego based group, has gotten a circumcision ban on  the ballot in San Francisco, where it will be voted upon in November.<\/em><br \/>\n<em>What\u2019s this all about?<\/em><br \/>\n<em>Circumcision has been around for thousands of years. It is common practice in the United States.  It is a religious imperative among Jews and Muslims. And in a society  where children suffer from all kinds of abuses, it\u2019s not a problem that  seems to be crying out for a solution.<\/em><br \/>\n<em>On its web-site, MGMbill.org claims to be standing up for human rights.<\/em><br \/>\n<em>\u201cGenital mutilation constitutes a major health risk, violates human  rights and has lifelong physical and psychological effects,\u201d the notice  of intent warns.<\/em><br \/>\n<em>But the measure smacks of something else, which smacked a lot louder  on Monday as information emerged about a comic drawn by Matthew Hess,  the leader of MGMbill.org. The local Lookout news wrote:<br \/>\n\u201cForeskin Man,\u201d written by Matthew Hess \u2013 president of  MGMbill.org, the group backing the local anti-circumcision measure \u2013  features a blond superman who thwarts \u201cMonster Mohel,\u201d a claw-fingered,  hooked-nosed, dark-skinned demoniacal figure who tries to circumcise  baby \u201cGlick Sacks.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.theblaze.com\/stories\/proof-that-s-f-s-circumcision-ban-is-anti-semitic\/\">From The Blaze<\/a> (sarcastically): <em>See? No worries! No anti-Semitism here!<\/em><br \/>\n<em> <\/em><a rel=\"attachment wp-att-75738\" href=\"http:\/\/blog.beliefnet.com\/faithmediaandculture\/?attachment_id=75738\" target=\"_self\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.theblaze.com\/2011\/06\/sf2.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"511\" height=\"342\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>IMHO:<\/strong> Yet another example of antisemitism masquerading as a human rights crusade.<\/p>\n<p>6.<strong> Glenn Beck announces fee-based online TV network.<\/strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2011\/06\/07\/business\/media\/07beck.html?_r=1\">From The New York Times<\/a>: <em>On Tuesday, Mr. Beck will announce a first-of-its-kind effort to take a  popular \u2014 but also fiercely polarizing \u2014 television show and turn it  into its own subscription enterprise. It is an adaptation of the  business models of both HBO and Netflix for one man\u2019s personal brand \u2014  and a huge risk, as he and his staff members acknowledged in interviews  in recent days. \u201cI think we might be a little early,\u201d Mr. Beck said of his plan for the  Internet network, called GBTV, which will cost $5 to $10. \u201cBut I\u2019d  rather be ahead of the pack than part of it.\u201d<\/em><strong><br \/>\nIMHO: <\/strong>Paying subscription fees to individual channels (rather than to huge cable systems) may be the best way for consumers to take back control over what comes into their homes via their televisions. <em><br \/>\n<\/em><\/p>\n<p>7. <strong>Talk show host calls on feds to financially starve states whose reps don&#8217;t OK a debt ceiling heist. <\/strong> Thom Hartman claims Treasury Secretary Tim Geithner has the power to do so.\u00a0 And here I thought it was Congress that controlled the purse strings.<\/p>\n<p>http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?feature=player_embedded&#038;v=0vZOJTNjLWA<\/p>\n<p>8.\u00a0 <strong>Do journalists understand issues of faith?<\/strong> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.deseretnews.com\/article\/700141645\/Missing-faith-Getting-religion-in-the-newsroom.html\">From Deseret News<\/a>: <em>It is unclear whether changes in the religious makeup of journalists  have taken place over the past 10 years.
