The awards <\/strong>were created in 1949 to celebrate writers, producers, directors, authors and illustrators whose work \u201caffirms the highest values of the human spirit.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Tony Rossi, The Christophers\u2019 Director of Communications, says \u201cIn a world where there\u2019s a lot of anger and division, people need stories like those we\u2019re honoring with Christopher Awards this year. From heroism in war to ordinary acts of kindness, these stories can serve as instruments of grace, helping us to see beyond our differences and celebrate our common humanity.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>This year&#8217;s 21 winners include ABC\u2019s long-running and soon-to-conclude family comedy <strong><em>The Middle<\/em><\/strong>, the Academy Award-nominated films <strong><em>Darkest Hour<\/em><\/strong> and <strong><em>Lady Bird<\/em><\/strong>, and acclaimed historian David McCullough\u2019s book <strong><em>The American Spirit.<\/em><\/strong> The awards will be presented in New York City on May 17th, 2018.<\/p>\n<p>Winners in the various categories are:<\/p>\n<p><strong>TV &amp; Cable<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><em>ABC News 20\/20: Wonder Boy<\/em><\/strong> follows the Newman family as they deal with their son Nathaniel\u2019s rare cranio-facial condition called Treacher Collins, the brutal surgeries he must endure as a result, and their efforts to help the world see his beautiful heart, mind, and soul.<\/p>\n<p><iframe title=\"Boy living with Treacher Collins has 53 surgeries by age 11: 20\/20 Part 2\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/feGliiEsomo?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer;
