Here’s the latest from the crossroads of faith, media & culture: 11\/05\/24<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Avengers assemble!<\/strong> The great American rumble for democracy is here as partisans for both sides are putting in their final push to get out there voters. Vice President Kamala Harris<\/strong> is leaning heavily into the appeal of her backers among the Hollywood and entertainment industry elite where she has a distinct advantage over former President Trump<\/strong>. Cue up the one-name wonders such as Beyonc\u00e9<\/strong>, Cher<\/strong>,\u00a0 Lizzo<\/strong>, Madonna<\/strong>, Oprah<\/strong>, and P!nk<\/strong>. Then, of course, there’s Stevie Wonder <\/strong>followed but the usual list of glitterati such as JJ Abrams, Jason Bateman, Jeff Bridges, Jamie Lee Curtis, Leonardo DiCaprio, Andy Cohen<\/strong>, Will Ferrell, Lady Gaga,<\/strong> Anne Hathaway <\/strong>and a profoundly profane Will Ferrell<\/strong><\/a>. While real-life law and order unions are siding with Trump<\/a>, Harris has nailed down endorsements from TV’s Law & Order<\/em><\/strong> universe (Mariska Hargitay<\/strong>, Ice T <\/strong>and Sam Waterston<\/strong>). Other celebs of varying degrees of cultural relevance on the K-list include Mindy Kaling<\/strong>, Spike Lee<\/strong>, Stephen King<\/strong>, John Legend<\/strong>, Eva Longoria<\/strong>, Jennifer Lopez<\/strong>, Ricky Martin,<\/strong> Matthew Modine<\/strong>,Willie Nelson<\/strong>, Bill Nye<\/strong>, Sarah Jessica Parker<\/strong>, Julia Roberts<\/strong>, Bruce Springsteen<\/strong>, Howard Stern<\/strong>, Ben Stiller, Barbra Streisand, Taylor Swift<\/strong>, Kerry Washington <\/strong>and Reese Witherspoon.

But those are just mere mortals. It’s America’s superheroes that impress me! Harris has the comic book Avengers<\/strong> rallying to her side (i.e. Robert Downey Jr.\/Iron Man\/Tony Stark<\/strong>, Don Cheadle\/the aptly-named War Machine<\/strong>, Mark Ruffalo\/The Incridible Hulk<\/strong>, Scarlett Johansson\/Black Widow<\/strong>, Paul Bettany\/Vision<\/strong>, Danai Gurira\/Okoye<\/a><\/strong> and Chris Evans\/Captain America<\/strong>). In case you missed it, here’s their cringe-worthy endorsement video in which someone imagined the term “Down with Democracy” to be a really cool and edgy catchphrase.<\/p>\n
