Proud to be an American<\/strong>. Country music star Lee Greenwood<\/strong>, along with Conklin Company owner and CEO Charles W. Herbster<\/strong>, was presented with the Helping a Hero<\/a> Defense of Freedom Award<\/strong>. The rare honor, which is bestowed by combat-wounded military veterans, has only been presented three times before. The previous recipients include actor Chuck Norris<\/strong>, Marcus Luttrell <\/strong>(aka the Navy Seal known as the Lone Survivor<\/strong><\/em><\/a>) and Joanne King Herring <\/strong>whose lobbying on behalf US support for the Afghan people following the Soviet invasion in 1979 inspired the movie Charlie Wilson’s War<\/strong><\/em>.<\/p>\n

Founded in 2006, Helping A Hero offers support for severely injured military personnel, primarily by providing specially adapted homes for qualifying service members through partnerships made with builders, developers and communities. Additionally, the organization offers severely wounded vets with marriage, caregiver, emotional and financial support programs.<\/p>\n

Lee Greenwood, known for his iconic patriotic song God Bless The USA<\/em><\/strong>, was recognized for his tireless work in gratitude and support of America’s military personnel, including wounded warriors and their families. He has served as the Helping A Hero National Ambassador for 12 years.\u00a0 The singer has performed on the group’s behalf and presented the keys to adapted homes to over 30 heroes.<\/p>\n

Specialist JP Lane, USA (Ret)<\/strong>, a double amputee who nominated him for the award, said \u201cI nominated Lee Greenwood because he inspires me with his music and really cares for all of us who have served and sacrificed.\u00a0 As a double amputee, it was life-changing when he gave me the keys to my adapted home.\u00a0 Lee also made my day by texting me on my birthday, just to check in. He has been a beacon of hope to all of us in the military. He defends freedom every day.\u201d<\/p>\n

Herbster was recognized for his consistent support of our country’s military veterans, and first responders.<\/p>\n
