The movie was viewed by over 100 million Americans, over 200 million Russians and hundreds of millions of people around the world.<\/p>\n<p>The hybrid live and video panel will include <em>The Day After<\/em> director <strong>Nicholas Meyer<\/strong> (also known for the <em><strong>Star Trek<\/strong> <\/em>movies <em><strong>The Wrath of Khan<\/strong> <\/em>and <em><strong>The Undiscovered Country<\/strong><\/em>), cast member <strong>Steve Guttenberg (<i>Three Men and a Baby<\/i>)<\/strong> and producer <strong>Bob Papazian<\/strong>. Also participating will be the film&#8217;s local casting director <strong>Jack Wright<\/strong>, former Lawrence Mayor <strong>David Longhurst<\/strong> and the documentary&#8217;s director <strong>Jeff Daniels<\/strong> (not to be confuse with the famous actor).<\/p>\n<p><i>The Day After<\/i> is said to have made an impression on then-President <strong>Ronald Reagan<\/strong> who would go on to meet former Soviet leader<strong> Mikhail Gorbachev<\/strong> in Reykjavik, Iceland for a meeting that would eventually result in the signing of the <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Intermediate-Range_Nuclear_Forces_Treaty\">Intermediate Range Weapons Treaty<\/a>. Talking of the agreement, Reagan, a longtime Cold War hawk, would tell Congress \u201cTo preserve our civilization in this modern age, a nuclear war cannot be won and must never be fought.\u201d Speaking of that moment, Daniels asks \u201cReagan finally recognized this publicly &#8211; but what about today\u2019s leaders?,\u201d noting that \u201cOnce again, we seem to be racing toward nuclear extinction on several fronts &#8211; with the US and Russia rehashing the saber-rattling of the 1980s and seven more countries threatening to press the red button. Yet those under age 50 seem blithely unaware of the danger. My team produced this film in the hopes of waking up the public, so we don\u2019t sleepwalk into the apocalypse.\u201d Daniels concludes \u201c<i>Television Event<\/i> reminds us that, however polarized we may be ideologically, we can still come together, inform ourselves and act to prevent the obscene devastation caused by nuclear weapons.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Next Monday Daniels and social impact producers <a href=\"https:\/\/www.beliefnet.com\/columnists\/faithmediaandculture\/2021\/04\/would-jesus-support-world-government-filmmaker-arthur-kanegis-the-world-is-my-country-thinks-so.html\"><strong>Arthur Kanegis<\/strong><\/a> and <strong>Melanie Bennett<\/strong> will be at the <strong>United Nations<\/strong> for a meeting of countries that have banned nuclear weapons. They plan to offer the film as an educational tool for activists and delegates to advance their outreach work. 69 nations have already ratified the Treaty for the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons (TPNW).<br \/>\n_____<\/p>\n<p><iframe title=\"Bonhoeffer: Pastor. Spy. Assassin.  | Official Teaser | Angel Studios\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/eK2sPrMlsQs?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<div><strong>Angel Studios has acquired worldwide rights to the feature film<em> Bonhoeffer<\/em>.<\/strong> The distributors of this summer&#8217;s sleeper hit <em><strong>Sound of Freedom<\/strong><\/em> are planning a November 2024 release.
