{"id":196,"date":"2011-05-12T11:19:24","date_gmt":"2011-05-12T15:19:24","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.beliefnet.com\/faithandjustice\/?p=196"},"modified":"2011-05-12T11:24:45","modified_gmt":"2011-05-12T15:24:45","slug":"hamas-represents-new-danger-for-israel","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.beliefnet.com\/columnists\/faithandjustice\/2011\/05\/hamas-represents-new-danger-for-israel.html","title":{"rendered":"Hamas Represents New Danger for Israel"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The reaction from around the world is still coming in.\u00a0 Just days ago, there was an announcement that sent shock waves through the Middle East.\u00a0 The Palestinian Authority is putting in place a so-called &#8220;unity government&#8221; that includes Hamas, a terrorist organization.<\/p>\n<p>That&#8217;s right, Hamas, which calls for the elimination of the Jews in its charter, is now part of a &#8220;unity government&#8221; that presumably will be involved in peace talks with Israel.\u00a0 That is absurd.<\/p>\n<p>Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu put this dangerous development into perspective when the announcement was made just days ago.<\/p>\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"PM Netanyahu&#039;s reaction to the PA-Hamas agreement signed today, May 4, 2011\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/vcbtCb1kxss?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<p>Don&#8217;t forget, just days ago, Hamas praised 9-11 mastermind Osama bin Laden, condemned the U.S. military action that took him out, and called bin Laden a &#8220;holy warrior.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Here&#8217;s the problem:\u00a0 the United States has been providing billions of dollars in aid to the Palestinian Authority (PA) over years, with more than $500 million going to them last year alone.\u00a0 With Hamas becoming part of this so-called &#8220;unity government&#8221; &#8211; the U.S. must send a very strong message.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>We cannot send our tax dollars to support a terrorist-linked government.\u00a0 Either the Palestinian Authority rejects Hamas, or we stop sending U.S. funds to the PA.<\/p>\n<p>And with the United Nations set to vote in September on whether to recognize a Palestinian State, it&#8217;s important to demand that the U.N. reject any terrorist-based Palestinian government.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The U.N. charter stipulates that:<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Membership in the United Nations is open to all other peace-loving states which accept the obligations contained in the present Charter and, in the judgment of the Organization, are able and willing to carry out these obligations.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Consider this excerpt from the charter of Hamas:<\/p>\n<p>\u2022Israel will arise and continue to exist until Islam abolishes it, as it abolished what went before.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022The time [Judgment Day] will not come until Muslims fight the Jews and kill them and until the Jew hides behind the rocks and trees, and [then] the rocks and trees will say: &#8216;Oh Muslim, oh servant of Allah, there is a Jew hiding [behind me], come and kill him\u2026<\/p>\n<p>There are more excerpts from the Hamas charter posted <a href=\"http:\/\/www.aclj.org\/News\/Read.aspx?ID=4228\" target=\"_blank\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>As you can imagine, there&#8217;s growing concern about all of this inside Israel.\u00a0 Defense Minister Ehud Barak called on the international community to demand that Hamas recognize Israel.\u00a0 That story is posted <a href=\"http:\/\/www.haaretz.com\/news\/diplomacy-defense\/barak-calls-on-international-community-to-demand-hamas-recognize-israel-1.360921\" target=\"_blank\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s time to stand up against terrorism &#8211; against those organizations that want to wipe Israel off the face of the earth.<\/p>\n<p>That&#8217;s why we&#8217;re mobilizing legal and legislative teams in this country and in Israel to address this troubling issue.\u00a0 It&#8217;s time to stand-up in support of Israel.\u00a0 Tens of thousands of Americans already have.\u00a0 Now you can add your name to our critical petition <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aclj.org\/petition\/Default.aspx?sc=3784&amp;ac=1\" target=\"_blank\">here<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s time for the U.N. to reject this terrorist-based government and time for the President and Congress to re-examine the massive aid we send to the PA in light of this new government that embraces terrorism.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The reaction from around the world is still coming in.\u00a0 Just days ago, there was an announcement that sent shock waves through the Middle East.\u00a0 The Palestinian Authority is putting in place a so-called &#8220;unity government&#8221; that includes Hamas, a terrorist organization.
