Of course, over the years, Veterans Day took on even greater significance.<\/span><\/div>\n<div>\u00a0<\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-family: Arial;color: #010f00\">And this year, November 11, 2011 (11-11-11) <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ibtimes.com\/articles\/247512\/20111111\/veterans-day-11th-hour-month-year.htm\" target=\"_blank\">brings us back to that very first observance &#8211; the cease-fire between the Allied nations and Germany &#8211; went into effect on the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month of 1918.<\/a> This year marks the first 11-11-11 to be celebrated as Veterans Day. It will be 100 years before such a date arrives again.<\/span><\/div>\n<div>\u00a0<\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-family: Arial;color: #010f00\">And on this day, many of the traditional remembrances and observances are taking place, including at Arlington National Cemetery where a <a href=\"http:\/\/news.yahoo.com\/obama-observes-veterans-day-arlington-rites-161811777.html\" target=\"_blank\">wreath was placed at the Tomb of the Unknowns<\/a>.<\/span><\/div>\n<div>\u00a0<\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-family: Arial;color: #010f00\">The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs has produced this short video honoring our veterans and our troops.<\/span><\/div>\n<div>\u00a0<\/div>\n<div><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Veterans Day 2011\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/xN2W429x_oA?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/div>\n<div>\u00a0<\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-family: Arial;color: #010f00\">And on this day &#8211; we pay tribute to those men and women &#8211; remembering those who are serving now &#8211; and those who have served America more than half a century ago.<\/span><\/div>\n<div>\u00a0<\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-family: Arial;color: #010f00\">Heroes like <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bostonherald.com\/news\/regional\/view.bg?articleid=1380070\" target=\"_blank\">20-year-old Lance Cpl. Evan Reichenthal<\/a> &#8211; a Marine who was on patrol in Afghanistan earlier this year when an improvised bomb exploded under his feet. It took 26 surgeries and months of hospitalization and rehabilitation, but he&#8217;s on the mend. He&#8217;s walking now and hopes to be snowboarding soon. &#8220;It puts life into perspective when you almost die,&#8221; he said. Just yesterday, he was honored for his service by Boston&#8217;s Semper Fidelis Society on the Marine Corps&#8217; 236th birthday. In a quiet moment, he pointed with pride at the Combat Action Ribbon and the Purple Heart on his chest. &#8220;These I earned with blood.&#8221;<\/span><\/div>\n<div>\u00a0<\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-family: Arial;color: #010f00\">Now, let&#8217;s turn the clock back &#8211;\u00a070 years. The men and women who served in World War II. A very special day for them as well.
