Concern &#8211; Don&#8217;t Overlook Iran"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/blog.beliefnet.com\/faithandjustice\/files\/2011\/09\/934361891.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-1220\" src=\"https:\/\/wp-media.beliefnet.com\/sites\/240\/2011\/09\/934361891-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" \/><\/a>With the <a href=\"http:\/\/aclj.org\/israel\/did-president-obama-promise-the-palestinian-authority-statehood\" target=\"_blank\">spotlight on the push\u00a0by the Palestinian Authority to seek full statehood at the United Nations<\/a>, it&#8217;s easy to overlook something else that&#8217;s playing out at the U.N. involving one of the world&#8217;s most dangerous dictators.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\nIranian President <a href=\"http:\/\/www.npr.org\/blogs\/thetwo-way\/2011\/09\/22\/140707690\/ahmadinejad-u-s-used-mysterious-sept-11-incident-as-pretext-for-war?ft=1&amp;f=1001\" target=\"_blank\">Mahmoud Ahmadinejad took center stage today\u00a0at the United Nations General Assembly<\/a> for the seventh time, continuing with his anti-American, anti-Semitic rhetoric.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\nIn the run-up to the speech, he had no shortage of criticism for Israel and the United States, telling the president of Lebanon that <a href=\"http:\/\/www.presstv.ir\/detail\/200341.html\" target=\"_blank\">&#8220;resistance&#8221; is the only way forward<\/a> in achieving victory against what he called &#8220;arrogant powers.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>At the General Assembly today, his vitriolic remarks once again were pointed directly at the United States, <a href=\"http:\/\/news.yahoo.com\/irans-ahmadinejad-slams-west-over-september-11-attacks-173551881.html\" target=\"_blank\">calling the 9\/11 attacks &#8220;mysterious&#8221;<\/a> and said the United States and its allies &#8220;view Zionism as a sacred notion and ideology.&#8221; He said that the U.S. used the 9\/11 attacks as a pretext for the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\nHis address before the General Assembly <a href=\"http:\/\/news.yahoo.com\/us-walks-iran-delivers-anti-us-speech-172115419.html\" target=\"_blank\">triggered a massive walkout of diplomats, led by representatives of the United States<\/a>, which correctly called his remarks &#8220;despicable.&#8221; More than a dozen diplomats from other countries, including France, followed suit shortly after Ahmadinejad began launching another tirade against America.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Mr. Ahmadinejad had a chance to address his own people&#8217;s aspirations for freedom and dignity, but instead he again turned to abhorrent anti-Semitic slurs and despicable conspiracy theories,&#8221; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/stories\/2011\/09\/22\/501364\/main20110186.shtml\" target=\"_blank\">said Mark Kornblau<\/a>, a spokesman for the U.S. Mission to the United Nations.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/blog.beliefnet.com\/faithandjustice\/files\/2011\/09\/966239111.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-1223\" src=\"https:\/\/wp-media.beliefnet.com\/sites\/240\/2011\/09\/966239111-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" \/><\/a>Ahmadinejad&#8217;s disdain for Israel continues to reach new heights. Not long ago, he said called Israel a &#8220;tumor&#8221; that should be &#8220;wiped off the map.&#8221; And, just recently <a href=\"http:\/\/news.yahoo.com\/irans-ahmadinejad-no-place-israel-region-101047532.html\" target=\"_blank\">said there will be no room for Israel once a Palestinian state is created<\/a>. Ahmadinejad has denied the Holocaust in the past and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/stories\/2011\/09\/22\/501364\/main20110186.shtml\" target=\"_blank\">today claimed the Holocaust has been used as a decades-old &#8220;excuse&#8221; for subservience to &#8220;Zionist&#8221; interests.<\/a>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>In addition to his rants, there is a real concern about his military endeavors. Israel Prime Minister <a href=\"http:\/\/www.washingtontimes.com\/news\/2011\/aug\/24\/wikileaks-netanyahu-iran-nuclear-capability-2009\/?utm_source=RSS_Feed&amp;utm_medium=RSS\" target=\"_blank\">Netanyahu is right to be concerned about Iran developing nuclear weapons<\/a>, a move that would be a real game changer in the Middle East.<\/p>\n<p>On the anniversary marking the tragic terror attacks of 9\/11 in America, <a href=\"http:\/\/washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/world\/2011\/09\/israel-decade-after-911-iran-must-not-get-nukes\" target=\"_blank\">Netanyahu\u00a0once again stated that Iran&#8217;s nuclear program must be stopped<\/a>. Netanyahu said the &#8220;the possibility that the world&#8217;s most dangerous weapons will fall into the hands of the world&#8217;s most dangerous regimes is too real.&#8221;<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\nAnd, days later, this call from the Israeli government urging more members of the international community to implement harsh economic sanctions against Iran to stop their weapons programs.\u00a0 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.torontosun.com\/2011\/09\/20\/israeli-minister-calls-for-tighter-sanctions-against-iran\" target=\"_blank\">Israeli Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman told a reporter that taking aim at Iran&#8217;s central bank and its oil industry could &#8220;stop these crazy guys with their nuclear ambitions.&#8221;<br \/>\n<\/a>\u00a0<br \/>\nYes, there&#8217;s much to be concerned about in the Middle East.
