Last night, Doug was reading <em>The Treasure of the Superstition Mountains, <\/em>by Gary Jennings. Here are 3 curious facts I heard about gold:<\/p>\n<p><strong>&#8211;<\/strong>One ounce of gold can be beaten out to the thickness used for gold-leafing statues and domes to cover 183 square feet.<br \/>\n<strong>&#8211;<\/strong>A single gram of gold has been drawn into a fine wire two miles long.<br \/>\n<strong>&#8211;<\/strong>Gold can be hammered to .0001 millimeter in thickness.<\/p>\n<p>According to <a href=\"http:\/\/http:\/\/www.moneyshow.com\/trading\/article\/32\/DAYTRADERS-25916\/The-Surprise-Gold-Trend-for-2012\/\">The Money Show<\/a> gold is attractive next to dull interest rates and rising inflationary pressures. (<em>The Surprise Gold Trend for 2012, <\/em>by Brittney Barrett)<\/p>\n<p>According to the Bible, gold is a temptation to make false images or gods.<\/p>\n<p>According to<a href=\"http:\/\/blog.beliefnet.com\/everydayspirituality\/2011\/11\/zen-kitty-and-calvin-and-hobbes.html\"> Zen Kitty<\/a>, gold is a part of creation, to be respected for what it is and for what it isn\u2019t.<\/p>\n<p>When it comes to \u201cthings\u201d it helps to know what the thing <strong>is<\/strong> AND what the thing <strong>isn\u2019t<\/strong>. This keeps us balanced and focused.<\/p>\n<p>Examples:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>&#8211;<\/strong>The human body is a symbol of an extraordinary individual. But the body is not separate from the universe.<\/li>\n<li><strong>&#8211;<\/strong>Religion is a means of <a href=\"http:\/\/blog.beliefnet.com\/everydayspirituality\/2012\/01\/are-you-praying-for-healing.html\">discovering truth<\/a>. Religion is not truth in and of itself.<\/li>\n<li><strong>&#8211;<\/strong>My fur is soft and soothing to pet, but it isn\u2019t intact, in other words, I leave a lot of cat hair around on the floor.<\/li>\n<li><strong>&#8211;<\/strong>A healthy body is nice, but it isn\u2019t our spirituality.<\/li>\n<li><strong>&#8211;<\/strong>Gold is elegant and durable but it isn\u2019t a source of beauty or happiness.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Sometimes I stare at the piano, but other times I listen to Doug and Cheryl when they read books out-loud to one another in the evenings.
