{"id":921,"date":"2011-04-07T12:42:45","date_gmt":"2011-04-07T16:42:45","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.beliefnet.com\/drnorrischumleysatisfiedlife\/?p=921"},"modified":"2011-04-07T12:42:45","modified_gmt":"2011-04-07T16:42:45","slug":"some-good-news-is-shining","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.beliefnet.com\/columnists\/drnorrischumleysatisfiedlife\/2011\/04\/some-good-news-is-shining.html","title":{"rendered":"Some Good News is Shining"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I\u2019m delighted to read this morning that General Electric is investing heavily in manufacturing solar energy panels.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2011\/04\/07\/business\/energy-environment\/07electric.html?src=recg\" target=\"_blank\">New York Times reports <\/a>that GE is set to make a major announcement today, April 7<sup>th<\/sup>, that they are opening a giant new solar manufacturing plant somewhere in the US.\u00a0 It is said to be the largest photovoltaic factory in America.<\/p>\n<p>Even better, they say they will create 600 jobs, for 400 workers.\u00a0 Also, that GE has signed agreements to provide solar equipment to utility companies, for them to generate solar power.<\/p>\n<p>This is excellent for us, and for GE, who has been disdained for its manufacturing of nuclear power plants (the ones in Japan, at Fukushima, that are old and leaking radiation).\u00a0 Also, GE has been a huge maker of nuclear and other weapons of mass destruction for decades.<\/p>\n<p>Time for GE and other companies to get out of the nuclear power and weapons businesses.\u00a0 These are harmful to people and our planet.\u00a0 It\u2019s great that GE is taking a lead for renewable, safer electric generation.\u00a0 Time we all use less electricity, too.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I\u2019m delighted to read this morning that General Electric is investing heavily in manufacturing solar energy panels.
