{"id":332,"date":"2009-09-19T09:38:15","date_gmt":"2009-09-19T09:38:15","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.beliefnet.com\/drnorrischumleysatisfiedlife\/2009\/09\/more-to-love-luke-and-tali.html"},"modified":"2009-09-19T09:38:15","modified_gmt":"2009-09-19T09:38:15","slug":"more-to-love-luke-and-tali","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.beliefnet.com\/columnists\/drnorrischumleysatisfiedlife\/2009\/09\/more-to-love-luke-and-tali.html","title":{"rendered":"More to Love Luke and Tali"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>After the first couple of episodes of rejection, stereotypes and televised polygamy in &#8220;More to Love,&#8221; I stopped watching.&nbsp; It was just too sad, and fairly stupid, I thought.&nbsp; Not to mention exploitative of the female contestants, and of overweight people in general.&nbsp; However, when I heard that the final episode was this past week, I had to take a last look.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m happy that Luke picked intelligent, sophisticated Tali over Melissa. I thought for a moment that Luke, who seemed to be a truly good person caught in a TV game-show ethos he couldn&#8217;t get out of, was really making the most of a fairly awful situation.<\/p>\n<p>All of the contestants were pretty.&nbsp; Tali, I think, is beautiful.&nbsp; Some were clearly in it to win it, and really into being on national television, and couldn&#8217;t have cared less about real romance, or love.&nbsp; Melissa seemed to me to be in the &#8220;contestant&#8221; category.&nbsp; Tali seemed to really want to find love, and really did fall in love with Luke.<\/p>\n<p>A lot of time was spent, yet again, on pointing out fat people clich\u00e9s such as &#8220;size doesn&#8217;t matter,&#8221; and &#8220;love me for who I am&#8221; stuff.&nbsp; That&#8217;s all skin-deep.&nbsp; A lot lot lot of time was focused on ethnic and cultural differences.&nbsp; Luke&#8217;s dad liked American, (Christian) Melissa, to the expense of the Israeli, Jewish Tali.&nbsp; That was painfully obvious.&nbsp; Luke&#8217;s mother liked Tali&#8217;s intelligence and tenacity.&nbsp; So did I.<\/p>\n<p>What I liked most in this final episode, was that intelligence and multiculturalism won out.&nbsp; Luke made the right choice, and Tali, too.&nbsp; They&#8217;re going to make a really great couple, because they are different.&nbsp; Opposites attract beautifully.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>After the first couple of episodes of rejection, stereotypes and televised polygamy in &#8220;More to Love,&#8221; I stopped watching.&nbsp; It was just too sad, and fairly stupid, I thought.&nbsp; Not to mention exploitative of the female contestants, and of overweight people in general.&nbsp; However, when I heard that the final episode was this past week,&hellip;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":171,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[23,10,14,13,8],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-332","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-entertainment","category-lifestyles","category-love","category-relationships","category-weight-loss"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v23.9 - https:\/\/yoast.com\/wordpress\/plugins\/seo\/ -->\n<title>More to Love Luke and Tali - Dr. Norris J.
