Did Patrick Swayze “lose” his battle with pancreatic cancer? Many news reports said so, as they were reporting his death. I believe he won.<\/p>\n
In his movie, “Ghost,” the key moment of the whole film, at the end, was his saying that it is love that is the connection between people, and life and death. In his movie, “Dirty Dancing,” the point was also love. Love of dancing, love of helping kids, and of course, romantic love.<\/p>\n
That guy was all about love. He loved his wife and was faithfully with her 34 years: a legend in Hollywood marriages, where most end in much shorter times. He loved his animals, especially his horses. He loved making movies, and entertaining us.<\/p>\n
I believe he won the battle of pancreatic cancer, which is an almost immediate death sentence once it’s diagnosed. There’s such a bad track record with it; when it comes, the fate is pretty much sealed. Not for Swayze. He fought it long and hard, not giving up or giving in – continuing to work, and trying to give the world something more. When he was interviewed by Barbara Walters last year, he won the battle when he said, “we’re all dying, it’s just a matter of time.” He also said he wasn’t giving up, and he didn’t.<\/p>\n
It’s true, we’re all dying, we’re all doing our best and trying to not give up or give in, and hopefully, to share the love we have inside us. It’s love that prevails. Just like in that movie, “Ghost.” It’s the love that brings us, that is with us, that connects us, that gently takes us into new realms.<\/p>\n
For me, it’s the love of God. That love is inside all of us, and is infinite. Remember the love that keeps us all winning the battle, whatever that may be for you — health, weight, finances, relationships, work, no work.<\/p>\n
