{"id":316,"date":"2009-09-03T01:00:00","date_gmt":"2009-09-03T01:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.beliefnet.com\/drnorrischumleysatisfiedlife\/2009\/09\/too-much-health-food.html"},"modified":"2009-09-03T01:00:00","modified_gmt":"2009-09-03T01:00:00","slug":"too-much-health-food","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.beliefnet.com\/columnists\/drnorrischumleysatisfiedlife\/2009\/09\/too-much-health-food.html","title":{"rendered":"Too Much Health Food?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>When I became a vegetarian long ago in my teens, I had the mistaken assumption that by eating only vegetables and &#8220;health food,&#8221; I&#8217;d be eating fewer calories, and of course, lose weight!&nbsp; Boy was I wrong!<\/p>\n<p>Just because one changes to a &#8220;healthy&#8221; diet full of whole grains, vegetables, organic this and that, the calories are still there!<\/p>\n<p>Yes, some may consider organic chocolate covered raisins &#8220;fruit,&#8221; but they are still candy and high sugar\/high calorie.<\/p>\n<p>Sure, organic or &#8220;all natural&#8221; peanut butter may be better for you, with less fat (the unsaturated kind) and more protein, but it&#8217;s still really powerful and caloric.<\/p>\n<p>Yes, whole grain breads are far better from your colon health, but they are still bread (let&#8217;s just be honest &#8211; they&#8217;re carbohydrates).<\/p>\n<p>Yes, even free-range chicken is still chicken.&nbsp; No-hormone beef is still high saturated fat.<\/p>\n<p>Vegetarian lasagna has lots of pasta (carbs) and cheese (saturated fat) and a smattering of vegetables.<\/p>\n<p>Be careful and eat less while you are eating healthier, and weight loss and weight management will be yours.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.twitter.com\/drnorrischumley\">It&#8217;s sweet to Tweet!&nbsp; Follow me at www.twitter.com\/drnorrischumley<\/a><\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>When I became a vegetarian long ago in my teens, I had the mistaken assumption that by eating only vegetables and &#8220;health food,&#8221; I&#8217;d be eating fewer calories, and of course, lose weight!&nbsp; Boy was I wrong!
