A yellow Mini Cooper is becoming another of my personal markers, like the friendly black dog or the red-tailed hawk. There is an oneiric logic to some of its appearances, on the roads of more than one world. It makes me think of Fringe possibilities. It reminds me that we can travel across time and sometimes jump between parallel worlds.<\/p>\n

On my morning walk today, I saw a yellow Mini Cooper pulling out of a parking space just round the corner from my house. In a flash, it pulled into a space just in front of the car it had previously been parked behind. I blinked. Had I really witnessed this odd swapping of spaces? This felt like one of those moments when reality shimmers a little, and you sense a possible bleedthrough from a parallel reality.<\/p>\n

I must explain that the yellow Mini Cooper has become a rather important marker in my life since a big<\/em> dream I recorded last summer. It was the car used by the good guys in a thrilling chase scene in which they were in hot pursuit of time travelers who had made off with important secrets. Characters in my dream seemed to be able to jump across time and between parallel universes as swiftly as the Mini Cooper had swapped parking places. Hugely excited by my dream, \u00a0I recorded a long narrative and sketched out some ideas for developing it into a story.<\/p>\n

Later that day, a woman in one of my workshops shared a dream of her own, in which she rode in a car that proved to be a vehicle for time travel. We agreed to make this dream the portal for a group journey. I found myself taking the wheel of a yellow Mini Cooper, while I drummed, and we shared some wonderful experiences. On my way to lead another workshop in Seattle tie following day, I stopped for a cup of coffee at a sidewalk cafe. I was promptly greeted by another woman who was coming to my program.\u00a0I started telling her my visions of the yellow Mini Cooper. Right away, an identical car parked in front of us.<\/p>\n

What does this mean? Well, for one thing it means I will go ahead and write the story that began to shape itself in the wake of the original dream. One of the most important functions of meaningful coincidence, or synchronicity, is to confirm – or sometimes correct – the direction we are following.<\/p>\n
