I borrowed and simplified these lines from the\u00a0Camina Gadelica, <\/em>a splendid collection of charms and songs of the Scottish highlands and islands gathered by Alexander Carmichael from elders and grandmothers around 1900.\u00a0The text is part of an ancient Celtic\u00a0lorica<\/em>, or \u201cbreastplate charm\u201d that became known, in its Christianized version, as \u201cSt Patrick\u2019s Breastplate.\u201d The lines used here long predate St Patrick\u2019s mission!<\/p>\n
