November is a month of death anniversaries for me. One of the death anniversaries is that of my mother. She was\u00a0dying of bone cancer,\u00a0and taken to hospital with a high fever. After a week of blood transfusion and treatments, she had a seizure. Mom lapsed into a coma, her brain function not even registering. After talking with the doctor, mom was taken off life support.<\/p>\n

It’s also a month when Remembrance Day makes us pause and reflect on the sacrifice of fallen soldiers. My friend’s youngest son was killed in the Afghan war. His unit was driving down a highway when they hit a roadside bomb. He died instantly. In civilian life he had been a teacher, and he was only a few weeks away from returning to that life when he died.<\/p>\n

I was given the following poem by a priest who ministered last rights to my mom. It gave me comfort then, and still does to this day. I’m sharing it with you. May it bring you peace.<\/p>\n

I Am Standing Upon The Seashore<\/h2>\n
I am standing upon the seashore.
\nA ship at my side spreads her white
\nsails to the morning breeze and starts for the blue ocean.
\nShe is an object of beauty and strength.
\nI stand and watch her until at length
\nshe hangs like a speck of white cloud
\njust where the sea and sky come
\nto mingle with each other.Then, someone at my side says;
\n“There, she is gone!””Gone where?”
\nGone from my sight. That is all.
\nShe is just as large in mast and hull
\nand spar as she was when she left my side
\nand she is just as able to bear her
\nload of living freight to her destined port.
\nHer diminished size is in me, not in her.And just at the moment when someone
\nat my side says, “There, she is gone!”
\nThere are other eyes watching her coming,
\nand other voices ready to take up the glad shout;
\n“Here she comes!”
