It’s so easy to slip back into self loathing. Especially when life gets difficult. So here’s three quick reminders to keep in your pocket when self-love is about to leave.

Be compassionate with yourself.

It’s okay to recognize your faults and mistakes. But it’s not okay to keep hammering all those negative things into yourself day after day. Because even if you do make a mistake, and life is full of making mistakes, that experience doesn’t have to define who you are. Just how bad was that mistake? Do you need to hang onto guilt or relive the moment over and over again in your head? Let the past moment stay in the past. If you can do this briefly, then you are showing compassion towards yourself.

Forgive yourself.

If you can forgive others, why won’t you forgive yourself? Humans make mistakes. It’s okay to not be perfect. It’s okay when your emotions get the better of your judgement, as long as you take full responsibility for your actions. Forgiving yourself frees you from the past. Forgiveness destroys guilt, anger and fear. It brings peace to the present and hope for the future.

Mistakes are there to guide you to a higher self.

Mistakes are learning experiences. They are part of the human experience. Sometimes the lesson you learn is quick and easy. Other times the lesson is difficult and painful. Mistakes are life’s way of teaching you what to do in a particular circumstance or situation. That way, the next time you encounter a similar situation, you will be equipped with knowledge and experience on how to best deal with it.

Self love is a way of living your life to the fullest. It is a belief about who you are and what you can do. If you believe you are a loving person, you will act that way. If you doubt yourself, or feel guilty, try putting a small positive thought about yourself into your head. Think about something that other people like about you. Or, focus in on the negative thought and counter it with a positive one about yourself. Keep practising self-love. It will then become a belief about yourself.

Visit me on Twitter @tereziafarkas

BUY NOW

Self love is difficult to practice.
