Even if the person hasn&#8217;t seriously contemplated suicide, these symptoms may signal a cry for help:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Verbal suicide threats such as, \u201cYou\u2019d be better off without me.\u201d or \u201cMaybe I won\u2019t be around\u201d<\/li>\n<li>Expressions of hopelessness and helplessness<\/li>\n<li>Previous suicide attempts<\/li>\n<li>Daring or risk-taking behaviour<\/li>\n<li>Personality changes<\/li>\n<li>Depression<\/li>\n<li>Giving away prized possessions<\/li>\n<li>Lack of interest in future plans<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Remember:<\/strong>\u00a0Eight out of ten people\u00a0considering suicide\u00a0give some sign of their intentions. People who talk about suicide, threaten suicide, or call suicide crisis centers are 30 times more likely than average to kill themselves.<\/p>\n<h3>If You Think Someone Is Considering Suicide<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Trust your instincts that the person may be in trouble<\/li>\n<li>Talk with the person about your concerns. Communication needs to include LISTENING<\/li>\n<li>Ask direct questions without being judgmental. Determine if the person has a specific plan to carry out the suicide.
