They’ve been doing that during Lent at some parishes around Pittsburgh, and the experiment has been well-received, according to the Pittsburgh Catholic<\/a> newspaper: <\/p>\n

In what was billed as \u201cpulpit sharing\u201d or \u201cpriest swap,\u201d the priests from five parishes in two South Pittsburgh neighborhoods visited nearby parishes to celebrate weekend Masses during the first weeks of Lent.<\/p>\n

Father Jim Bachner, pastor of St. Catherine of Siena Parish in Beechview, said the reason for the exchange was twofold.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s for us priests to try to get to know each other\u2019s parishes and people in the parishes,\u201d Father Bachner said. \u201cThat\u2019s first and foremost. And for the people to get to know us so that we\u2019re familiar with each other. The other purpose was because we\u2019re trying to do more things as a cluster.\u201d<\/p>\n

In addition to St. Catherine, the other parishes involved were St. Pamphilus in Beechview, and Our Lady of Loreto, Resurrection and St. Pius X, all in Brookline.<\/p>\n

\u201cSt. Pamphilus just had a parish mission,\u201d Father Bachner said. \u201cWhen we\u2019re doing parish missions, we\u2019re trying to do that more and more as a cluster, inviting all the cluster parishes to attend that mission together. Not to say, \u2018It\u2019s only St. Pamphilus who\u2019s attending this thing.\u2019 We want to try to include everybody to be able to attend those things.<\/p>\n

\u201cI feel if the priests are willing to go to these other parishes as well, that we should hopefully set an example for the parishioners to say, \u2018It\u2019s not so bad going to these other parishes.\u2019 We should feel comfortable in other parishes as well, that we\u2019re one community in a sense trying to work more together as a larger community.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
