The souls of the just are in the hand of God
\nand no torment shall touch them.
\nThey seemed, in the view of the foolish, to be dead;
\nand their passing away was thought an affliction
\nand their going forth from us, utter destruction.
\nBut they are in peace.
\nFor if before men, indeed, they be punished,
\nyet is their hope full of immortality;
\nchastised a little, they shall be greatly blessed,
\nbecause God tried them
\nand found them worthy of himself.
\nAs gold in the furnace, he proved them,
\nand as sacrificial offerings he took them to himself.
\nIn the time of their visitation they shall shine,
\nand shall dart about as sparks through stubble;
\nthey shall judge nations and rule over peoples,
\nand the Lord shall be their King forever.
\nThose who trust in him shall understand truth,
\nand the faithful shall abide with him in love:
\nbecause grace and mercy are with his holy ones,
\nand his care is with his elect.<\/p>\n
