{"id":4816,"date":"2010-08-24T19:42:07","date_gmt":"2010-08-24T19:42:07","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.beliefnet.com\/deaconsbench\/2010\/08\/a-good-reporter-a-good-man.html"},"modified":"2010-08-24T19:42:07","modified_gmt":"2010-08-24T19:42:07","slug":"a-good-reporter-a-good-man","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.beliefnet.com\/columnists\/deaconsbench\/2010\/08\/a-good-reporter-a-good-man.html","title":{"rendered":"A good reporter, a good man"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>While on vacation, I was saddened to learn that veteran CBS News correspondent <a href=\"http:\/\/www.northjersey.com\/news\/opinions\/dow_082410.html\">Harold Dow<\/a> had died suddenly from an asthma attack.&nbsp; He was 62.<\/p>\n<p>I had the privilege of knowing him, and working with him on two trailblazing magazine shows, &#8220;Street Stories&#8221; and &#8220;48 Hours.&#8221; Tough, tenacious, fair-minded, big-hearted &#8212; Harold was all of those things. In an age when television journalism is increasingly cheap, quick, easy and superficial, Harold was still trying to bring it heart, and depth, and resonance. <\/p>\n<p>Harold was also, in everything he did, a class act &#8212; generous with his praise, and tireless in his work ethic. People just loved being around him.
