Reports<\/a> indicate the Scottish singing sensation could well be warbling for the pontiff when he visits the U.K. later this year: <\/p>\n

\nThe Roman Catholic Church in Scotland wants Susan Boyle to perform for Pope Benedict XVI during a visit to the UK later this year.<\/p>\n

Boyle, who was catapulted to global superstardom after appearing on a British TV talent show, would be a “great asset” to events planned for the Pope’s trip in September, a spokesman for the Church in Scotland said.<\/p>\n

He said there were hopes the Scottish singer would perform at a public mass in Glasgow.<\/p>\n

“She certainly would be a great asset to the program on the day and we hope to be able to discuss the possibility of her participation soon,” the spokesman said.<\/p>\n

No formal invitation or approach had been made yet, the spokesman added.<\/p>\n

The leader of the world’s Catholics will be in Britain on September 16-19.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Considering the lineup at Yankee Stadium two years ago — Harry Connick, Jr. and Stephanie Mills, among others — Susan Boyle would probably fit right in at a big papal mass (and may be the best-known Catholic singer from Scotland). <\/p>\n
