David M. O&#8217;Connell went in search of paper towels in his bathroom cabinet. Something on the bottom shelf caught his eye. Under a pile of junk, he found an old frame.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"mt-enclosure mt-enclosure-image\"><a href=\"http:\/\/blog.beliefnet.com\/deaconsbench\/PH2010011203666.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"PH2010011203666.jpg\" src=\"https:\/\/wp-media.beliefnet.com\/sites\/212\/import\/assets_c\/2010\/01\/PH2010011203666-thumb-228x337-10803.jpg\" class=\"mt-image-left\" style=\"margin: 0pt 20px 20px 0pt;float: left\" height=\"337\" width=\"228\" \/><\/a><\/span>In the frame was a tiny etching of an old man with an unruly beard and billowing hat, composed of thousands of fine lines. His eyes are tired. His head nods toward his chest.<\/p>\n<p>The piece is signed &#8220;Rembrandt.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>O&#8217;Connell added the etching to his personal art collection and showed it off to visitors. A dozen years passed, and he never investigated whether the etching was truly created by the famous 17th-century Dutch painter and printmaker Rembrandt Van Rijn.<\/p>\n<p>Then about a year ago, he called the university&#8217;s archivist to his home and presented her with the mystery.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We saw his name twice on the piece, but we still couldn&#8217;t believe that&#8217;s what this was,&#8221; said Leslie Knoblauch, the school&#8217;s records management archivist. &#8220;Who finds a Rembrandt randomly in their home?&#8221; <\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p> Check out <a href=\"http:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/wp-dyn\/content\/article\/2010\/01\/12\/AR2010011203665.html\">the rest<\/a> for the answer.  <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>You never know what you may find when you wander into the bathroom.
