{"id":3401,"date":"2007-11-05T10:40:00","date_gmt":"2007-11-05T10:40:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.beliefnet.com\/deaconsbench\/2007\/11\/banning-bibles-in-beijing.html"},"modified":"2007-11-05T10:40:00","modified_gmt":"2007-11-05T10:40:00","slug":"banning-bibles-in-beijing","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.beliefnet.com\/columnists\/deaconsbench\/2007\/11\/banning-bibles-in-beijing.html","title":{"rendered":"Banning bibles in Beijing"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Anyone planning to attend the Beijing Olympics next year will have to leave any dangerous and potentially lethal weapons at home. <\/p>\n<p>Things like, you know, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.catholicnewsagency.com\/new.php?n=10868\">your bible<\/a>: <\/p>\n<blockquote><p> Organizers of the 2008 Olympics in Beijing have published a list of \u201cprohibited objects\u201d in the Olympic village where athletes will stay.  <\/p>\n<p>To the surprise of many, Bibles are among the objects that will not be allowed.<\/p>\n<p>According to the Italian daily La Gazzetta dello Sport, organizers have cited \u201csecurity reasons\u201d and have prohibited athletes from bearing any kind of religious symbol at Olympic facilities.<\/p>\n<p>Other objects on the list include video cameras and cups.<\/p>\n<p>The Spanish daily La Razon said the rule was one of a number of \u201csigns of censure and intolerance\u201d towards religious objects, particularly those used by Christians in China.
