Last week, it seems, a certain television anchorwoman misidentified the location of next month’s GOP convention. And the other day, she issued an on-air apology<\/a> — which is notable for (among other things) making a reference to the Apostle of the Gentiles: <\/p>\n

Katie Couric says “sorry,” St. Paul. <\/p>\n

On July 29, the CBS Evening News anchor presented her profile of U.S. Sen. John McCain’s campaign. She reported: “The mother of all appearances will be in Minneapolis in September, when McCain accepts his party’s nomination.” <\/p>\n

At the close of Monday’s broadcast, Couric cleared the air with an on-air correction \u2014 extremely rare for TV news \u2014 in which she stated that, while Minneapolis is one of the host cities, the convention itself and McCain’s acceptance speech will indeed be in St. Paul at the Xcel Energy Center. <\/p>\n

“So our apologies to all the people of St. Paul,” Couric said, “along with a reminder that the man for whom your city is named encouraged his followers to be patient and forgiving.” <\/p>\n

A tongue in cheek editorial in the Pioneer Press late last week gently corrected her: “We hope Couric and her team do not plug in their lights and set up their cameras in Minneapolis to watch Sen. McCain accept his party’s nomination. Unless they have very bright lights and very long lenses.” <\/p>\n

Couric and crew will be in the Twin Cities from Sept. 1-4 to cover the convention. <\/p>\n
