{"id":2703,"date":"2008-10-15T06:31:00","date_gmt":"2008-10-15T06:31:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.beliefnet.com\/deaconsbench\/2008\/10\/how-about-calling-it-benedicts-bench.html"},"modified":"2008-10-15T06:31:00","modified_gmt":"2008-10-15T06:31:00","slug":"how-about-calling-it-benedicts-bench","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.beliefnet.com\/columnists\/deaconsbench\/2008\/10\/how-about-calling-it-benedicts-bench.html","title":{"rendered":"How about calling it &#8220;Benedict&#8217;s Bench&#8221;?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>One of the more innovative and modern ideas to come out of the Synod of Bishops is one that at least <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cardinalseansblog.org\/\">one American bishop<\/a> has already embraced: blogging. <\/p>\n<p>From <a href=\"http:\/\/www.zenit.org\/article-23931?l=english\">Zenit<\/a>: <\/p>\n<blockquote><p> One of the auditors at the world Synod of Bishops has suggested that Benedict XVI opens a blog to explain the word of God in an attractive way.<\/p>\n<p>The proposal was made today by Agnes Lam, president of the Catholic Biblical Association of Hong Kong.<\/p>\n<p>Among her suggestions to promote the word of God so that the faithful can come to know Christ, she included the blog proposal, bringing smiles from many of the bishops.<\/p>\n<p>She invited &#8220;the Holy Father to open a multi-language blog to shepherd today&#8217;s world: [a] daily scriptural verse with [a] simple reflection, brief text and plentiful images.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Lam also suggested other means for spreading knowledge of the Bible.<\/p>\n<p>Above all, she recommended simple methods of meditation in a complex world.
