I credit The Anchoress<\/a> for first bringing this to the world’s attention (or, at least, mine). It’s a fascinating new document from the Vatican on, of all things, rules of the road. <\/p>\n

The Catholic News Service describes them as “10 Commandments for Drivers,”<\/a> and that’s not far off the mark. The official title is “Guidelines for the Pastoral Care of the Road.” They should be emblazoned on the blackboard of every driver’s ed class in America. <\/p>\n

They include: <\/p>\n

5. Cars shall not be for you an expression of power and domination and an occasion of sin.<\/p>\n

6. Charitably convince the young and not so young not to drive when they are not in a fitting condition to do so.<\/p>\n

7. Support the families of accident victims.<\/p>\n

8. Bring guilty motorists and their victims together, at the appropriate time, so that they can undergo the liberating experience of forgiveness.<\/p>\n

9. On the road, protect the more vulnerable party.<\/p>\n

10. Feel responsible toward others. <\/p><\/blockquote>\n
