{"id":1436,"date":"2008-11-19T14:23:00","date_gmt":"2008-11-19T14:23:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.beliefnet.com\/deaconsbench\/2008\/11\/affliction-nordstrom-removes-controversial-t-shirt-after-complaint.html"},"modified":"2008-11-19T14:23:00","modified_gmt":"2008-11-19T14:23:00","slug":"affliction-nordstrom-removes-controversial-t-shirt-after-complaint","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.beliefnet.com\/columnists\/deaconsbench\/2008\/11\/affliction-nordstrom-removes-controversial-t-shirt-after-complaint.html","title":{"rendered":"Affliction: Nordstrom removes controversial t-shirt after complaint"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A department store known for its stellar customer service has lived up to its reputation, and taken an offensive t-shirt off the shelves: <\/p>\n<blockquote><p>The department store chain Nordstrom says it has removed a shirt from its shelves that shows a skeleton holding a small child.<\/p>\n<p>A Florida customer said the Affliction-brand t-shirt showed the skeleton holding Baby Jesus.<\/p>\n<p>Judy Carbo described the shirt as demonic, saying it resembled famous paintings that show the Virgin Mary with Jesus.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;As a Catholic and a Christian, it was offensive all the way around,&#8221; Carbo said.<\/p>\n<p>The devout Catholic said the image on the shirt was offensive enough to say, &#8220;enough,&#8221; so she asked the company to remove it. <\/p>\n<p>&#8220;If you were Jewish, you wouldn\u2019t want to see a swastika on a shirt,&#8221; she said. &#8220;If you were African-American, you wouldn&#8217;t want to see anything desecrating you.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>A spokesperson for Nordstrom said, &#8220;The Company empowers its buyers and clearly someone made a bad choice.
