“If I’m not on fire, it’s not urgent.”<\/p>\n

I mean it.\u00a0 And I repeat that to myself on a weekly basis.\u00a0 It is so easy to get wrapped up into a false sense of immediacy.\u00a0 Another set of words I school myself with frequently are,<\/p>\n

“I will not be governed by the tyranny of immediacy.”<\/p>\n

I’ve learned, over time, that even things that have the appearance of requiring that I drop everything and tend to them… mostly don’t.\u00a0 With my own priorities I like to pretend I’m a bakery and I tell each one of them to “take a number and sit down.”\u00a0 Ah – it’s a pleasure to have those days in which I can tend my many priorities in such an orderly fashion.\u00a0 And for those days when that protocol does not work?\u00a0 Just breathe!<\/p>\n
