Within seven days\u2026<\/p>\n
you have\u00a0 a penchant for<\/p>\n
saying so much with so little, the<\/p>\n
Strunk and White of Elemental Spirit,<\/p>\n
You teach brevity and<\/p>\n
economy of expression.<\/p>\n
In seven days You<\/p>\n
call forth a world.<\/p>\n
You consider unacceptable things in seven.<\/p>\n
In seven days, Holy Week,<\/p>\n
we observe in efficient measures<\/p>\n
the contrasts of our humanness.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
Triumphal Entry where all sayers are, \u201cYes!\u201d<\/p>\n
set against the solitary question,<\/p>\n
\u201cREALLY? Not even one hour can you be awake with\u00a0 me?\u201d<\/p>\n
On the heels of that incredible invitation you offered Lazarus to, \u201cRise Up!\u201d<\/p>\n
the welcome was astonishing\u2026 a crowd curious for another miracle and<\/p>\n
all palm leaves and accolades.<\/p>\n
Who knew the thrum of the throng would<\/p>\n
quickly be followed by so quiet a party?<\/p>\n
One loyal soul willing to help you haul<\/p>\n
that craggy cross \u2013 and two felons.\u00a0 Even with<\/p>\n
them only one \u00a0followed you into a safer haven.<\/p>\n
(We cannot forget the hopeful, weeping women.)<\/p>\n
Grief and grace stand<\/p>\n
side by side in this eight-day \u201cHoly Week.\u201d<\/p>\n
On Friday we have lost You and<\/p>\n
Sunday, You are ours, again.<\/p>\n
Ours, then, now and forever.<\/p>\n
The contrasts spill into this day.<\/p>\n
In little, or in liturgy\u2026<\/p>\n
In ritual, or in resistance\u2026<\/p>\n
While I may forget to Name You, then, now and<\/p>\n
forever, You lovingly name me.<\/p>\n
