\nthe proportional odds, the times they
\nhave returned safely, the certainty that
\nthese things happen to other people.

we rage.
\nwe weep.
\nwe light candles.
\nwe buy guns.
\nwe watch the news.
\nwe snap at the grocery clerk because
\nwe are afraid to walk to our car.
\nwe ask questions.
\nwe rail at the silence.
\nwe pray even if we\u2019ve been prayer-less.
\nwe lock our doors.
\nwe turn off the news because we cannot
\nbear more smoke, fire, shots,
\nexplosions,\u00a0 loss.\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0again..<\/p>\n
there is blood on the ground.
\nthere is anxiety in the collective soul of our land.
\nthere is the reach of community and reminders of
\nwhat we really believe butting up against the
\ngrief.\u00a0 and we commit to good. we rekindle
\nkindness. we extend ourselves to strangers.
\nwe do the impossible and face the fear and
\nstand up, stretch out our arms and put
\nthem around a shoulder that is closest.
\nwe become, together, more than we are alone.
